Placing one foot in front of the other, investigating and overcoming are intrinsic to our nature. Journeys of discovering are not something you start doing, but something you gradually stop doing.”

How does the vision become a reality?

It starts with connection and immersion, and with hope, inspiration and flow.

Actions speak louder than words. That’s why in November / December 2019, Chris Woodfield is cycling around Devon and Cornwall exploring what it means to connect with the ocean.

Along the journey he will be connecting with people and projects involved in making the World a better place. Climate change, environmental and social problems are just that – problems. But, to every problem, there’s always a solution.

Connecting with these change-makers and sharing their positive stories of change will aim to inspire hope and positive action. This sharing will be through the Ocean Flow podcast – a platform for showcasing these positive stories of hope through the medium of storytelling.

Chris will fully immerse himself in the journey of ocean connection and therapy first-hand through wild swimming in the sea every day.

Chris will be living single-use plastic free for the entire trip and where possible, eating local and seasonal food or food that would otherwise be wasted. He will be camping or aiming to stay with local people exploring the “kindness of strangers” and connecting through sharing.

This is the starting point of this new ocean connection journey, learning from passionate people and projects, delving deep into what it means to connect – with each other and the ocean, and where this will lead….

The aim is this will evolve into creating and delivering ocean connection workshops, ocean / coastal school sessions, developing an ocean connection toolkit, partnering with like-minded individuals, organisations and institutions etc and feed into the larger longer-term vision.

Embrace the journey…

Why Devon and Cornwall?

To explore home, Chris grew up in Plymouth, on the border between Devon and Cornwall and is starting by exploring what is on his own doorstep, but seeing with new eyes, and connecting / immersing in the landscape.

Through exploring this wild landscape, the Atlantic coastline, Chris will experience what it means to be fully alive, connecting with these “edge” places – the transition between land and sea.

There’s lots of inspiring and exciting stuff happening to shine a light on and he’s recently built a bamboo bicycle so it’s time to test it out!
